Copper City Chiefs Sign Rome Native Max Bartell

ROME, N.Y. — The Copper City Chiefs are proud to announce the signing of Rome native Max Bartell for the 2026-27 American Premier Hockey League (APHL) season.

The 6-foot, 200-pound forward returns home after an impressive hockey career that began at Rome Free Academy, where he totaled 122 career points and established himself as one of the area's top players.

Following high school, Bartell joined the Walpole Express (EHL), where he recorded 14 goals, 10 assists, and 137 penalty minutes in 38 games, showcasing a combination of offensive ability and physical play.

Bartell then continued his career at Utica University (NCAA Division III), appearing in 22 games over three seasons, while recording 1 goal, 2 assists, and 35 penalty minutes.

"Max is another outstanding local player who understands what it means to represent Rome," said Chiefs Owner/President Jimmy Milliken. "He brings size, toughness, and a relentless work ethic every time he steps on the ice. Max is the type of blue-collar player our fans are going to love, and we're excited to welcome him back home to wear a Copper City Chiefs jersey."

Bartell becomes the latest hometown talent to join the Chiefs as the organization continues building a roster with strong local roots ahead of its inaugural season.
